India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has said that he feared losing his right leg after a horrific car accident 13 months ago. Pant was traveling from Delhi to his home in Roorkee in December 2022 when his car collided with the divider in the middle of the road.

Recalling the accident in a series ‘Believe: To Death and Back’, he said – If any vein was damaged, there was a fear of losing my leg. I was scared at that time. The bone of my right knee had dislocated and was causing a lot of pain. I asked if there was anyone nearby who could help me put my leg back in place. He helped me get my knee in the right place.

Two men, Rajat Kumar and Nishu Kumar, took Pant out of his SUV. The car later caught fire. Pant said- felt such fear for the first time in my life. I was aware of the injury at the time of the accident, but I was lucky because it could have been more serious.

Pant said that now everyone is forbidding him to drive. He said- Now I am being told that ‘Dude, don’t drive at all’. But no one was more scared than me. I will still drive because I love driving. Just because an accident happens doesn’t mean you won’t do those things again. Pant said that he remained bedridden for about a month and was unable to do normal things. He started moving slowly.

Rishabh Pant said- I never thought that I would like brushing my teeth so much. When I went to take a bath, I did not want to get out of the bathtub. I found happiness in these small things because I was lucky to have a second life. Not everyone is lucky enough to get a second life.

Pant said that doctors also said that there was no fracture after the accident. He always tells me that I am lucky. Obviously, it was such a terrible accident and people feel bad that it happened to me. How can I be lucky? But the other side of this is that I was alive even after the accident.
